So no one knows what the hell is wrong with the ABC. The common though is the accumulators. Thoughts ?

When the accumulators went bad on my ADS system, the light would come on and the ride would be very stiff with no adjustments. It doesnt sink over time, but it will not self level.

I dont know enough about the ABC systems to help much, but the accumulators on my SL went bad at around 100k miles, finally just not functioning at all by 110k. Like your car, the initial diagnosis was unclear, it wasnt losing fluid and was very intermittent.

If I dont see AMGtech reply tonight, Ill send him an email.

It’s possible. No faults in the ABC module? Has it puked out more than once?

Yep. He’s flushed it 3 or 4 times and it keeps coming up. Nothing is coming up on his diagnosis machine as broken. He has never seen anything like it before .

I have his email too. But he did reply so...

Yeah, then I think it’s either going to never pump or accumulators, unfortunately. I’ll ask around tomorrow and see if anyone else has seen it before.

Never pump ? The pump appears to be working . I just told the mech. to go ahead with the accumulators.

My thinking with the pump is that it could have a leak internally sending pressure in the wrong direction. I would think an accumulator could cause this once and be done, not multiple times. But I could be wrong either way. Another possibility I just thought of is if work had been done on valve blocks someone maybe could have put lines back in the wrong holes. Difficult, but I’ve seen stranger things.

I haven't had value work done. Idk what the PO(s) did though. I haven't had a problem like this before so I don't know.

If it were the lines it would have manifested a while ago I think. I feel like I’ve seen this before but I can’t put my finger on it, you know? It could be a valve issue too. Really just about anything could cause it I’m sorry to say.

Oh no problem, nothing much you could have done. Thanks for helping to at least try to diagnose the issues.

Yeah, it just sucks that problems are so common and varied on ABC systems. Such a cool system when it works.

That's what I tell myself. It's annoying when it breaks but it is one of the best when it's working.

Good god, the car doesn’t even know what’s wrong? Yikes.

Wish I could make a comment, but the accumulators are the part of the whole system that really baffle the hell out of me. Valve blocks I understand, ride height sensors, and that fucking pump. But I don’t even know where the accumulators are.

$1900 for the accumulators. Here's to hoping that this fixes it.

Hey. If that’s your total bill, congrats. My mechanic charged me $2070 for the pump alone (and if I keep the car I’m never letting him buy parts ever again because a new one on PelicanParts is $1300.)

There’s two accumulators then? I assume? Which makes no sense in my mind because I think about it in citroen terms, meaning there should be at least 47?

There’s either two accumulators or two groups of two. The sad part is that we’re not even 100% sure if it is the accumulators. It could be a pump too.

Also, I should add that the bill included transmission mounts.

If it was the pump I have to imagine it would have thrown a code. That’s the heart of the system and when it goes wrong, it don’t go wrong subtle.

Figured it out. There is a restrictor valve in the pump that gets stuck. This valve is basically what controls the fluid intake for the pump. It sticks closed and prevents the pump from drawing fluid out of the reservoir. But the pump continues pushing fluid through the rest of the system, including the return to the reservoir, thus causing the overflow. The ultimate fix is a new pump.

DO NOT let your mechanic source the pump himself. Be smarter than me. DO NOT let your mechanic mark a $1,300 pump up to $2,070.

That one is rebuilt. A new genuine Mercedes one was $1,300 on PelicanParts.com a month ago when I had to have mine done. Haven’t checked recently.

People are generally 50/50 on the rebuilt ones, but that company gives a 1 year warranty, and I think you can add on an additional one too. I don’t know. It’s a question for AMGtech.

Would you trust a re-man pump?

It’s worth a try I guess. I’ve never used one before. But that being said I haven’t had fantastic luck with reman parts for Mercedes.

I can't find the $1300 pump. The cheapest one is $1700

Yeah. Neither can I. That $2,200 was $1,300 a month ago, but there were like 8 in stock. Now it says only one left. I guess they adjust pricing based on supply, which is quite disappointing. I expected better from them.
